As reading is my hobby, I personally have the opinion that it should never feel like a chore. For this reason, if I’m not vibing with a book or I’m just not in the right mind-set to read it, I will DNF it. I’m lucky that I have finished and loved a vast majority of the books I’ve read, but there are still a few that I haven’t finished (and will, most likely, never) and some that I have put off for another time. There is also one book in particular that I regret finishing.

Clean Point by Meg Jones

I bought this book on Kindle over a year ago, not knowing much about it other than the synopsis. I got about 55% through before I gave up on it. While there was nothing majorly wrong with this book, and others might love it, I just couldn’t connect with the story or the characters. I also thought that the relationship progression felt unnatural; feelings were already quite strong even though the characters barely knew each other and as a slow burn fan, that was not my cup of tea. I don’t think I would go back to this book but I would by no means recommend for others to avoid it.

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

This book is one that I’ve been planning on reading for a while. I started it only recently but I got into a reading slump, and unfortunately I just couldn’t get into this book. I definitely want to go back to it eventually, when I’m in the right state of mind and it is definitely still high on my TBR list.

I found this book last year and I was very excited to read it. I enjoyed the start of this book, but for some reason I stopped reading it and just never went back. It would feel weird reading this book at any other point of the year except Christmas and that’s the only reason that I haven’t gone back to finish it. I am very excited to pick this book back up again when Christmas comes back around in 5 months.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

I started this book as a teenager and got less than halfway through. I remember that I did not enjoy this book – I didn’t enjoy the writing or the storyline, even though the premise enticed me to get the book (and the cover is very pretty). At this point, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it as it’s been long enough and I’m not sure it’s something that appeals to me as an adult.

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

I read this book as a teenager as well and I thought I would enjoy it as a John Green fan – Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars being two of my favourite books as a teenager. I was really disappointed when it turned out that this book just didn’t click with me the same way that his other books did.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

I read this book back in 2022 as part of a buddy read, and it’s safe to say that I did not enjoy it. I found this book really difficult to get through, and I did not enjoy the story or the characters at all – I only finished it because of the buddy read that I was doing. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this book as I think it’s not the best of it’s genre (and because I refuse to recommend any of Colleen Hoover’s books).
